Hi I just started art school and I'm in the animation program and I was wondering if you have any advice??
Helloo. I am probably the wrong person to come to with this question. I started this blog to draw every day when I started studying animation back in 2010. By mid 2010-near the end of the year I realised I was in the wrong institution. Ever since 2011 I have been trying to get back to study with a different school. Work and Life has everything on pause for me. I am looking at studying in 2015. :C Forever away I know. It isn’t so bad. I have a job currently working with a games studio. As well as my secret side projects. I’d kill for free time. hehe
Outside of work I study, I draw, I animate, all self taught. But I don’t share my animations so much here. I actually go to my peers who I admire, I share my work privately to them. I guess I am embarrassed at how terrible I am. I can tell you I am making progress, even if it’s smaller successes than I want it to be. Critiques from peers you trust in helps.
My best advice is question what your teachers and your peers say. Do your own research. Listen to industry workers. I found there was a lot of BS being said by everyone in the course, and no one who has had an industry job. (That’s Australia though, we don’t have many jobs in Animation/Games.)
I just watched Dave Chappelle quit stand up. Out in the Comcast Theater in Hartford, Connecticut, shivering in the open air, I can’t think that this is anything else. I felt this coming just five minutes after the silver curtain had dropped dramatically, by which point the former Comedy Central star had barely gotten any jokes out. We all knew it was five minutes because, with an edge in his voice, Chappelle had ticked off the time.
